Avalanche warning for region Indre Troms Friday 16.04.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Some avalanches can be triggered in wind slabs where the snow is dry, and wet avalanches can occur where the snow is wet. It is uncertain if persistent weak layers will be triggered by the weather, but if they do, big avalanches can occur.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 15. April 2021

Mountain weather

Thursday 15. April 2021

8 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -6 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 16. April 2021

2-4 mm precipitation. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -4 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
